Subject: Shahabuddin’s Solo Exhibition opens in French city Châlons-en-Champagne  

Paris, Monday 13 March 2017: A Solo Painting Exhibition of renowned Bangladeshi artist Mr. Shahabuddin Ahmed was inaugurated on Sunday at Gallery Clémangis in the touristic city of Châlons-en-Champagne, 180 km east of Paris. The Exhibition will remain open till 26 March, the independence day of Bangladesh.  

The inaugural ceremony, hosted by Ms. Nelly Lapierre Charton, President of the Painters Association in Champagne, took place at Clemangis House, built in 15th Century with wood and stone in the historically famous champagne-producing city.  Ambassador of Bangladesh to France and Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Mr. M. Shahidul Islam and the Deputy Mayor of the city, Mr. Benoist Apparu jointly inaugurated the two-week long exhibition.

Speaking on the occasion, Shahabuddin Ahmed described to the French audience how the enormous force that propelled the Bengali nation to the War of Liberation 46 years ago still  inspired his artwork even in a totally different socio-cultural milieu in France.   

The Ambassador in his statement mentioned that Artist Shahabuddin was a rare combination of a war hero, a world famous artist and a person with great human qualities. He thanked Shahabuddin for representing a positive image of Bangladesh in the French mainstream society through his artworks.

About 30 recent artworks of Shahabuddin are on display on the two levels of Gallery Clemangis.       Artist Shahabuddin, recipient of Swadhinota Padak and French title “Chevalier de I’Ordre des Arts at des Lettres” (Knight in the Order of the Arts and Literature), was accompanied by his wife Anna Islam. 

French artists and a significant number of personalities from the art and cultural field based in the city of Châlons–en-Champagne, Embassy officials, local media, local government officials, members of French civil society attended at the inaugural ceremony.
